Have you ever wondered how a city might be different? As part of my 2016 #LPKidsPoetry residency with Lonely Planet Kids I got wondering what would happen if the great landmarks of the world dissappeared. Can you imagine Paris without the Eiffel Tower? Cairo without the Pyramids? London without Big Ben? We all love to go on holiday to see the great landmarks, but what would happen if we went to visit them and found they’d gone off on holiday? Well, here’s how I imagine it…
Landmarks Summer Holiday
If landmarks went on holiday
would they leave a great big space?
A gaping hole in every city?
I think this would be a pity!
I believe we’d need to have a play,
create some new stuff in their place.
Get super busy you and me
and make the tourists sights to see.
A Burj of burgers on a bun,
a leaning tower of pizza,
an Eiffel tower of cocktail sticks,
an Empire State of Lego bricks.
A pyramid of Toblerone,
Big Ben built out of Jenga,
An Acropolis of toilet rolls,
a Taj Mahal of pudding bowls.
If landmarks went on holiday
we’d make a new one every day
to fill the space they used to own
and keep it fun ’til they got home.
