Beaumaris Castle on Anglesey has been called the perfect example of concentric castle planning. Built in the 13th and 14th century, the castle was unfinished for all manner of medieval reasons. But today it is a rewarding and interactive attraction. You can wander the winding towers, peer down murder holes, play the kind of harp that might have entertained King Edward l, build your own miniature castle on the lawn and use it to launch yourself high above the castle walls. But don’t jump too high…
Ballet on the bastion
Pirouette on the parapet,
battement on the battlement,
rambert on the rampart,
leap over the keep
but watch out for the moat
or you may end up afloat.
