The Cumbrian mountains sometimes look delicious enough to eat, and if you are lucky enough to find yourself in a position to touch, take and toast one, why not do it? Whatever the season.
Marshmallow Mountains and Candy Floss Cloud
We light our fire from the sky.
Hold our Sunday paper tapers
into flaming sun, as it drops
gentle golden grenade into
sharp origami valley fold.
Words spark and play, as oxygen
in our breath fuels our flame.
No more need for flint and steel,
as fire and ice and news print form
the pyramid that cooks our meal.
We pluck the iconic Lakeland peaks;
powder-white mounds and blush-pink bumps
and push them onto thinnest of twigs
hold them over the open flame.
They warm and glow, and softly mould
into mallow fairy pillows.
We roll these Lakeland mounds
into wisps of candy floss cloud.
Feel them melt into hungry mouths,
and taste the soft centre of winter.
