Redrawing the Map

Boy with map on his face in front of globe

There’s a new way of navigating from A to B and it doesn’t involve Google. You just need a brother, a pen and a freckle. Or two…

Joining the dots

I have a thousand freckles.
If you think that sounds a lot
you should see what happens when
my brother joins the dots.

His pen starts making patterns
whirling like a Spirograph,
and soon the random spots become
a fully contoured map.

Navigate by my cheekbones,
take bearings from my brow,
my ears now have coordinates,
a stream runs through my mouth.

And when he puts his pen down
and flashes me a grin,
you can’t see freckles any more;
my whole face is coloured in.
